Line and matter

Gesa Lange, born in 1972, lives in Hamburg, where she has been Professor of Drawing at the University of Applied Sciences since 2011. Using needle and thread, she creates “embroidered” drawings on paper and works with graphite on primed canvases – pictorial worlds that appear both delicate and filigree as well as strict and constructive, with powerful lines, precisely placed or dynamically moving.

Claudia Tebben, born in 1966, lives and works as a freelance painter in Gelsenkirchen. Her mostly large-format paintings draw their main inspiration from this region, which is characterized by coal mining – her vehement brushstrokes create rugged, material-emphasized structures and intense colour contrasts enhance their eruptive expressiveness.
