MaxCine Festival – Creating links between science, culture and youth for 15 years

MaxCine celebrates its 15th birthday in October.

We are celebrating our anniversary festival at a place where new knowledge for the future is created. We bring science to life for everyone and create a lively community around MaxCine, the Center for Communication and Exchange at the Max Planck Institute of Animal Behavior in Radolfzell.

Enthusiasm is contagious. Is there anything more fascinating than immersing yourself in the world of people who are passionate about their work and experiencing the ravages of time to see how science is created?

The scientists around the award-winning institute director are looking for answers to better understand the animal world on our planet, to protect it and to learn from it. Immerse yourself in the world of swarm research with Prof. Dr. Iain Couzin. Prof. Dr. Meg Crofoot takes you into the world of primates, because they also have common dreams. Prof. Dr. Martin Wikelski is dedicated to the topic of animal migration and lives for the “ICARUS” project and the “Internet of Animals”.

Other luminaries in their field are Dr. Barbara Fruth and Dr. Maria van Noordwijk. Both share a fascination for primates and impress with their unique wealth of knowledge gained from decades of research into bonobos and orangutans. If you would like to learn more about misconceptions in science, then the lecture of the same name by Dr. Paquita Hoeck from the Natural History Museum of the University of Zurich is just the thing for you.

There is a varied range of workshops on offer for all those who would like to actively participate. Dr. Liang Li will show how “beastly good robots” make biology understandable. Other topics include bionics, programming in biology and the search for worms.

MaxCine attaches great importance to the combination of science and art. You can look forward to offers such as scientific drawing, animal icon painting, animal collages and photographic fruit collages.

If you would like to find out more about the history of the picturesque venue and the castle in Möggingen, you can look forward to a review by Dr. Konrad Freiherr von Bodman.
