non finito

Beate Bitterwolf’s paintings focus on the examination of nature and the local seascape. On the borderline between figuration and abstraction, precise observation and free gesture, her paintings with transparent spaces unfold an aura of vastness and openness. Interpenetrations of color and light, water and sky, create strong atmospheric moods and dreamy moments. “Pictures are worked on, changed, reworked or only completed. The theme “non finito” is a commitment to the process of further development in one’s own work and the building of something new on old traces,” the painter explains her intention.

In Antonio Zecca’s paintings, drawings and installations, the figure is at the center of artistic interest as a message for man’s existence in the world. His compositions arise during the process of painting, drawing and sculpting from an inner perspective, from a preoccupation with memories and dreams. “I often come across the unknown, then the search for the past, present and future begins,” explains Zecca. Strongly colored and contoured, his figures develop a dynamic expressiveness on the surface and in space, are symbolically charged, resonate with echoes of art history and mythology, and appear both poetic and archaic.

The artists see their joint presentation at the Villa Bosch as an open process in which the works experience their “completion” in the eye of the beholder.
